JVA, The Dune House, Thorpeness, Suffolk
Norwegian practice JVA made their name with a series of houses around Oslo. Set in an idyllic spot on the edge of the sea, The Dune House interacts with its surroundings: the ground floor opens right on to the beach, while the geometric roof line offers privacy - and a homage to the local vernacular

Living Architecture

Special previews of Alain de Botton’s revolutionary architecture project

Living Architecture is the brainchild of Alain de Botton, philosopher and author of, among other works, The Architecture of Happiness.

The project seeks to challenge the negative view of modern architecture by offering members of the public the chance to rent five different houses designed by some of the world’s top architects for holidays around the UK. It is hoped that the concept will revolutionise the holiday lettings industry, as well as attitudes towards contemporary architecture.

Initiated around two years ago, the first of the holiday houses under construction will be available to let from the end of 2010.
