Tomi Ungerer, the poster boy for illustrated stories

Tomi Ungerer is a prolific writer and illustrator.  With a brilliant imagination and sharp wit, Ungerer has published over 140 books which vary from extraordinary children's fiction, like the tales of Adelaide and Moon Man, to autobiographical books such as Far Out Isn't Far Enough.  Ungerer writes in French, German and English and his work has been translated into over 28 languages.  Ungerer's work explores the human condition through engaging stories and captivating illustrations.

Seemingly inexhaustible, Ungerer creates drawings in abundance. The Tomi Ungerer Museum – International Center of Illustration in Strasbourg opened in 2007 and already holds an archive of 11,000 of his drawings, exhibited on rotation.  Some of these clever illustrations will be on loan to an exhibition at Hafnarhús, Reykjavik Art Museum as part of the Reykjavik Arts Festival 2011.  We present a preview of some of these exciting works which will be on display at the exhibition, Tomi Ungerer - Posters and Drawings, which opens on Saturday (21 May-24 July).

In addition to the exhibition, Thérèse Willer, director of the Tomi Ungerer Museum will deliver a lecture on the great works and workings of this talented author and illustrator (23 May).
