New Villager - the band that thinks it's an installation

The Brooklyn-based artist collective pays homage to Matthew Barney's 'Cremaster'

Yes it’s a bit Matthew Barney’s Cremaster series on a Wal Mart budget but we can’t help liking this video for the song LightHouse by Brooklyn based artist collective New Villager. Maybe it’s their high minded ideals we’re attracted to: concerts are referred to as ‘integrated events’, DJ sets ‘lectures’ and installations ‘temporary culture’ or maybe it’s just the simple fact that they’re a pop band that likes to play in art galleries.

According to the hype - and there’s a fair bit of it - their shows include "integrated events" and "immersive rituals" which "explore the concept of the boundaries between different communities". If you’re in New York you can make your own mind up when they play the Out In The Streets Music And Arts Festival in Brooklyn this Saturday (August 27).
