Hélène Binet – Selected Works

Gallery

The description ‘photographer to the starchitects’ doesn’t really begin to do justice to the work of Hélène Binet. The Swiss-born photographer looks at buildings with the eye of an artist and her photographs not only bring concrete and steel to life but seem to give it soul in the process.

She studied photography and art history in Rome before architect Daniel Libeskind encouraged her to start photographing buildings. She’s since become synonymous with his work and that of Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield.

Libeskind has commented in the past on Binet's extraordinary ability to capture the contours of a building without flattening them. “She exposes architecture’s achievements, strength, pathos and fragility,” he’s said.

Binet has a monograph, Composing Space, published by Phaidon in November. She also has a new show at Gabrielle Ammann Gallery in Cologne starting September 9 which we strongly urge you to see. Our gallery features images from both it and the book. Hope you enjoy them. The show runs from September 9 to October 28.
