Nan Goldin's arresting exhibition in Rotterdam
Four slideshows of work by the photographer renowned for breaking social taboos
This selection of arresting images taken by Nan Goldin are part of four slideshows of the photographer's work on display at her exhibition Poste Restante at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam, from October 2nd, 2010.
Goldin is renowned for her long-term record of the intimate and explicit moments of her inner circle. She was captivated by Joana, a young mother, and her relaxed attitude to her naked body, which she captured in the photograph: Joana's back in the doorway (2000). One of her most unsparing images is a self-portrait showing a battered and nearly blinded Goldin in the aftermath of her stormy relationship with her long-term partner Brian. It is this honest and explicit exploration of the human condition that makes her work so engrossing.
Poste Restante will be on show at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, from 2nd October 2010 until 2nd January 2011.
