Anniversary edition of 'Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive' to be published

Photographer Joel Meyerowitz chronicles post-9/11 efforts with the support of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum

Marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, a commemorative edition of the book Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive, by the American photographer Joel Meyerowitz, is being published with the support of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Charting the monumental recovery effort in the weeks and months after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Meyerowitz's 400 photographs are interspersed with fascinating stories relayed in his own words, as the only professional photographer granted untethered access to ground zero.

Meyerowitz pays tribute to the tireless determination of the people who assisted in the recovery process, including the construction workers, firefighters, chaplains and crane operators and all the volunteers.

'I think there's a new generation of readers, including many young people, who already know this as an historical event, but never experienced it from this perspective,' explains Meyerowitz in this video. 'It's their education and curiosity that will be served by this work.'

The book will be available at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, 20 Vesey St. All net proceeds from sales of books, keepsakes and other items at the Preview Site are dedicated to developing and sustaining the 9/11 Memorial.

A selection of Meyerowitz’s photographs will be included in the 9/11 Memorial Museum, which opens in 2012.
