Phaidon's punt for the winner of the 2010 RIBA Stirling Prize
She has lived in the UK for four decades and been nominated as many times for one of the Royal Institute of British Architect's most prestigious awards. But on Saturday Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid was finally announced as the winner of this year's Stirling Prize for MAXXI, Rome's new flagship contemporary arts and architecture museum.
Hadid fought off competition from David Chipperfield's work at the Neues Museum in Berlin, the Ashmolean intervention by Rick Mather, celebrated school extensions by dRMM and DSDHA and an office, gallery and residential building by previous lesser known Theis and Kahn Architects.
