Its debut in 1935 brought colour photography to the masses, making it a favourite of both professionals and shutterbugs alike. So, when Kodak announced that Kodachrome would be discontinued last year, the news resulted in a frantic search from fans from around the globe desperately searching for last remaining rolls.

Prompted by the announcement that Kodachrome processing would shortly be going the same way, and in the spirit of nostalgia often brought on by this time of year, the folks from Chow - a comprehensive San Franciso-based website dedicated to foodies - decided to combine their culinary skills with a homage to the cult film.

The result is The Last Kodachrome Christmas, a series of six softly-focused, bygone era-laden photographs capturing Christmas delicacies directly inspired by retro cookbooks, some of which date back as far as 1958. (Those who are more foodie than photographer should not despair, the recipes for each of the featured dishes are also available at the bottom of each image.)
