For the first time, Roger Ballen has staged an installation at his photography exhibition at Museum Het Domein (until 28 August). The exhibition, entitled Skadukant – Afrikaans for the profundity of human psyche - delves into the nature of existence. Using materials he has collected around Sittard and his native Johannesburg, Ballen has created a three-dimensional environment giving the same psychological resonance as his Skadukant photographs.

The exhibition features a collection of over 130 photographs from the 1980s to today, providing an overview of Ballen’s oeuvre, as well as illustrating his evolution from documentary photographs to complex visual scenes. Alongside well known series such as Outland, Shadow Chamber and Boarding House, this is also the first chance to see Ballen’s newest photographic series, which prominently features birds.
